A data scientist in Computer Vision

Dr. Truong is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Sejong University (Korea). He obtained a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science (CS) from Sejong University (Korea) in 2021, a M.Sc. degree and a B.Sc. degree in CS from the University of Science, VNUHCM-University of Science (Vietnam), in 2012 and 2009, respectively.

He is also a lecturer at the VNUHCM-University of Science and play a role as an instructor in several courses, such as computer systems, data structures & algorithms, and pattern recognition. He is a data scientist specializing in computer vision & pattern recognition. His research interests include Biometrics, Computer Vision, Image Analysis, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning.

Weighted Statistical Binary Patterns Framework

We present a novel framework for facial feature representation based upon Local Binary Pattern, called Weighted Statistical Binary Pattern. The descriptors utilize the straight-line topology by direction for Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and have local difference sign-magnitude distributions on two-moment images composed for spatial statistic support. This approach is an extension of the Completed LBP, where the useful information on moment variations for a weighting approach is utilized. Evaluation using four standard face datasets suggests that the present framework outperforms the state-of-the-art methods and achieves 98.51% for ORL, 98.72% for YALE, 98.83% for Caltech, and 99.52% for AR dataset in terms of accuracy, respectively. Experimental results suggest that our descriptors are robust against noise, illumination conditions, diverse facial expressions, and head pose changes.
